One of the most amazing experiences from 2012....
It all started covering 3 history classes and i ended up having a whole semester plus a summer course, a good friend took me to this place in the spanish harlem where the mixteco community is well known.
Social Studies and history was my little contribution, i can say, i learned much more than what i was supposed to share. Every single student was an amazing book, and wonderful examples for their own families. THANK YOU

This year, Calpulli mexican dance company presented their show in a different theater (Pace University Auditorium) where i had the chance to collaborate with some projections video-animation and iconic artworks related to dia de los muertos. The show was a complete different concept under this worldwide known tradition, the audience, dancers and backstage people were pretty happy with the result of months of preparation. Thank You Calpulli

This logo it's pretty clear, they are not face to face, not at the same level and the pilgrim is up in the right.
It was hard to digest such a thanksgiving diner, surprisingly Marcos was the one who took us to this surreal experience in the first colony up in the north of massachusetts. Getting out of the toxic city of ny, the trees were just great to see among lakes and green areas that we really enjoy to see, but the hallucination started when the nuclear plant destroyed the landscape, it was hard to believe the gigantic size of such a destructive artifact.
Our visit to Plymouth was part of a protest and ceremony ending up with a thanksgiving diner shared with people from latin and native americans. It was dreamy to see the mayflower by the ocean and the
The ghost town didn't welcome our presence and our diner was at the basement of the first anglican church of this country.

Since we had the Lucha Libre as excuse for some inspiration and motivation, i brought back some of the pictures done, years ago, when i started doing photographs of luchadores, working and luchando por la vida. Fortino from Cholula, Adamo from Guerrero, Victor from Hidalgo, and the sleeping beauty from heaven. The bird was found outside of my house in Mexico, sort of the way i feel but willing always to keep going in this journey.

We were invited to an event where Blue Demon and El Santo, would be having a lucha libre show, these two famous wrestlers are legends an they will always be part of us, during our childhood they were our super heroes. We did a collective work. A mask, made of patches, each patch a portrait of someone who inspires: LUCHA. So each student picked an inspirational person, from history or random people that we find as inspirational figures.

A brief story of our group
Thank you Alex del Toro for this contribution to our group, thank you for letting us share a bit of our story to others that will be interested in joining us or collaborating with us, the story continues and there will be a place for us and more projects to go, we are not giving up and those who believe in change and those who fight for small dreams to make a better world. You are not alone, this is our little piece of contribution and supports yours. Thank you to all that have been and still being part of this project.
My apologies for some language problems and for setting my ideas clear, i guess images speak better than my poor pronunciation and lack of "sophisticated" vocabulary which i would hate to use it. lol

Our activities still giving us inspiration and more satisfactions, our life is ruled by humble and very simple details, we don't look for recognition nor lucrative intentions, our life is driven by our desire of sharing our talents and skills, we talk through images, through drawings like mayan codes did in their time.

When i lost my job, my house, literally everything... i walked through the city, every single street and avenue debating what to do with my life, i sat down inside of a church and i contemplated people praying, i felt jealous coz at least they had faith on something and i wanted to feel that but it never happened coz the idea of "god" has no place in my head.
One rainy day i ran into American Museum of Natural history and i walked to the Mexican Hall and i started drawing, those "objects and artifacts" that were taken away from their own land, and were brought involuntarily, just the way i was feeling. Every day for four months i spent at least 4 to 6 hours a day like i was in a cloister... and i felt like those people in the church, but i was contemplating the best people of the whole times, those who lived in ancient times. Those who loved nature and were grateful in all senses.
Ciebel, is a wonderful Mexican friend who is applying for Art School in Chicago, she has submitted her wonderful portfolio, and with it, i had the honor of collaborating with this humble animation, where her characters from her sketchbook take life and portrait herself as an inspiring brave woman who believes in a better future for the new mexican generations in america. Thank you Ciebel for letting me put my little contribution in your deep and powerful art work.
Thank you +Edgar for coming and sharing with us your time, we have you in our heart, in our drawings, in our classes, in our exhibits, explore the Mictlan and come and visit us, we are always happy to see you.

Edgar Garza Morales
This wonderful man, was the source of inspiration, was the reason and he still the reason of all our work and effort in this city, we'll carry his teachings and we'll have him always next to us in our journey. We are sad, coz people like him no longer exists and the few left are in serious extinction danger. Our work will always be inspired by you Edgar. Thanks for being such a great friend.

This project was canceled, the priest got too scared of the content and he refused to do it. We are not
surprised about it: John 8:32 says: "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free"
You won't see the details till it gets tighter, it's the first oil layer, so, PATIENCE. This project it's not about faith coz i don't have it, it's about history, and that a doubt a lot about lol. So yeah... "todo es mentira en este mundo, todo es mentira la verdad" manu chao sings.
This is the color sketch that is coming along, doing a lot of research on every single figure, from Clemente VII to Huitzilopochtli. Learning a lot about textiles from central and south america, learning a lot about the 3 first missioners and the catholic queen who left an ignored testament.

THE MURAL HAS BEEN ACCEPTED BY NYC PRIESTS and ONE OF THE HIGHEST EXPERTS FROM "LA VILLA DE GUADALUPE" el tepeyac, MEXICO CITY. (Padre Eduardo Chavez)

For those who judgmentally wonder about this project, read this: I LIKE TO PAINT, that doesn;t mean i support believes, tho i follow what HISTORY says, and if it comes to talk about "god laws", then, there is not thing to say the TRUE, and in this mural, animals, flowers, stones and every single line says what it's not written. And wiki...tiki and any other source of info, plays a game in favor of those pretend to have control of everything.

My life has been always run by unexplainable events, and one of the strongest magnetism drags religion into my path, once again, the catholic church appears with a gigantic project.
Guadalupe virgin apparition is the topic, and this time New York seems to be the target for this lady to be promoted by 2 books written about scientific discoveries in the image. Astronomers, Mathematicians, Musicians, historians and specialists want to show the secrets behind the image.
We are working on the sketch to reveal, THE CODE behind, if you are smart enough, you'll find it yourself, this code is not far from our nose. The mural will carry a certain number of animals, characters, plants AND stars. The eyes, the hands and toes, everything will have an specific meaning.
The project comes from La Villa, well known as Basilica de Guadalupe, to make it incredible, the priest who was in charge of Juan Diego sainthood, is involved.
I'm an artist who wants to say what is not written in the books.

This is the work we are doing in the basement of a 100 year old theater in Brooklyn Music School, where Mano a Mano has it's cultural activities. The work still half way, and there are more areas to design. These three panels, (left side) Tonatzin carries the sun as the kids play with the light, (center) Yemaya, carries the sea, and the kids play with star fish and (right side) an indian american woman carries the basket with iguanas and armadillos, at the end, an old lady in the shape of a tree gives fruit to the kids and on top of her head her white hair builds a nest where the owl will hatch its eggs.
(The lettering will be part of the mural, it's written in NAHUATL, "La Consigna de Cuauhtemoc")

This 30 seconds sample video, was done, for a very special cause and now reaching a different and colorful sector from NYC, Terraza 7 it's a place where amazing things are happening music wise, as well as human rights events. This clip has a temporary made up melody, but the music is being actually created by JOHN BENITEZ, among other great colombian, peruvian and mexican artists. The first i mentioned it's a Grammy Awarded talented Cuban man who is also doing JAZZ JAMS every sunday at Terraza 7. Enjoy this sample, and i'll publish the final, once i get the music from those great musicians.

The drawing class has been invited to different events, and the students have evolved their technique and their creative thinking. This project was meant to move onto a different stage, from now and on, our drawings won't be dark, now is time for an optimistic air, but we needed to get rid of those feelings. We are growing in many aspects and it's easy to see.

The American Museum of Natural History invited my paintings to share audience and space with ancient pieces from Mexico, Central and South America. The Latin American Festival, brought to the museum a millenary spirit with Quechua Chants, Poetry, Ancient Dance and art from different local artist. This is definitely an unforgettable experience, The paintings were already familiar with Quechua dialect since at home they hear Maria every day while she is on the phone talking with her mother from the high "Andes". Enjoy the 2 min video. Thanks to everyone who were there helping and supporting.

After Jarana Beat concert, i had the chance to meet the owner of this place in queens who gave me the responsibility of renovating the image of "terraza", this place it's pretty cool and amazing things are happening there, colombia, mexico and peru get together every night and merge their music, getting the attention of Moroccan and European rhythms inspiring them to bring in their influence. An unusual phenomenon is germinating never expected sounds and atmospheres.

A great band "jarana beat" had an amazing show performing songs of their new album "echapalante". Sinhue mi compadre, invited me, to do some images and project them while they were performing. We took advantage of the celebration "dia de la candelaria" and we had great time, musicians, dancers, and all kind of free spirited people gathered making the event unforgetable. Thanks Jarana Beat for letting be part of your show.

How ironic it was for me the day of the dead this year, since i was feeling deeply dead inside. It was tripy bieng in the middle of the chaos, around pretty magical people with amazing talents and gifts. Art, music, poetry and ofrendas were not really enough to make myself feel alive, but it was an odd experience being a happy zombie finding new friends... My spirit still down and i tried to bury my sadness and my pain, but the cempazuchitl flowers were not enough.
The dead comes with autumn, time to get rid of the old leaves and broken weak branches, time to clean, time to die and wait to come back to life, time to renovate my inner forces. Winter is coming... time to hibernate.

Mexican independence protest
After 6 months of a drawing class, a group of students made a statement through their art, three colors were picked to protest against the festivities of mexican independence in new york. We had poetry, street art show, music, and a lecture. We want to make changes, we are starting from ourselves and through our families, and little by little , we'll make a revolution. if mexico is already sinking by the drug cartels at least in new york the new generations must make the difference and we are working on it.

Calpulli Dance Comany project finished!!!!
At the art show this amazing scene happened right in front of my paintings, what else can i ask?... Some times i see things and i feel that i'm hallucinating but the reality challenges my imagination

Queens Theater in the Park, Calpulli Dance Company Performance, Art show "Monos del Bicentenario".
I made this video for one of the best Mexican Dance Company in New York: Calpulli, enjoy it!

This wonderful Mexican couldn't be missed in the series of the bicentennial, i have so much respect for what he did in the middle of the chaos and confusion, and just for being the first mexican president with indigenous pure blood.
This is the representation of the spaniards born in Mexico, those who fought for the independence, those who had a project for themselves trying to get rid of their own people so they could get better benefits and opportunities in their new raped country: La Nueva España. This illustration represents the racism and the transformation of the culture, a "menina" wearing a "china poblana" dress instead of their european style.

This is also part of the series of paintings for the bicentenary of mexican "independence".

This work was done for the fist exhibit, celebrating the stupidity of the mexican bicentennial, protesting against the fake celebrations of many institutions, we did a rap concert, we hanged out art work out side of the building at 14st. so people could see our discontent and "Boca Floja" brought us some rap.
This the reason i live for.

The first part of the mural is getting closed to be done, but still a lot of work to do, team work it's a hard thing to do, but
there is a lot of learning in it. Sharing ideas, and having the feeling of everyone doing something at the same time working for the same cause, makes it so special, rain, sun, cold, or any other condition we've lived but we still on, doing our best for the community who is enjoying the process and it's been collaborating in many ways.

This is my representation of "La Malinche", the woman who was used by Hernan Cortez, and helped him to destroy our culture bringing a fucked up religion, and a bunch of diseases, a foreign language. The thing is, that "La malinche" had a very large file of experiences that built a serious psychiatric problem. She was in a dysfunctional family, her father died when she was little, her mother replaced her with another child, she was all alone and used, abused and become slave, taken as a gift to different tribes (that's why she was a polyglot) and all her anger, became the desire to betray her people. If i'm not wrong we all got a "malinche" inside.
Shalom! Frida Salvatrucha.
WARNING: THIS PAINTING CAN BE DISTURBING FOR SOME OF YOU, SCROLL DOWN IF YOU DON'T FEEL LIKE SEEING IT.
This painting didn't really deserve the time i spent doing it however i find it important as part of my portfolio that is able to reach aggressiveness against corrupt and unnecessary individuals who manipulate and destroy the society. I must accept that this is a very disrespectful action against "legionaries of christ" and i don't reject, they deserve it after all they've been doing to the people and THEY STILL DOING. Don't support them, let's make those type of people extinguish. "Father" Maciel, burn in hell!.
For years i was a brainwashed servant of one of the most disgusting orders of the catholic church (they are al disgusting anyway) i worked blinded by idealist dreams under the pig name of Legionaries of Christ. F@#!@# u Marcial Macial, burn in hell!
This painting is a tribute of the amazing ancient "pok ta poc" and bringing up the chili jalapeno that at some point was the image of the mexican soccer player. Sombrero, mustache, short and spicy... the way we've always been seen.
two hundred years of independence? 100 years revolution anniversary? fu*@#!! u all politicians and religious people... are you really proud of being independent? do you have a reason to celebrate such a ridiculous thing? Mexico is worse than ever...
1968 memorial painting for the student movement like no other in Mexican history
